James Holden: School lunches are taxpayers’ problem

November 7, 2013

In response to “Childhood healthy eating not taxpayers’ problem” (Nov. 5, Letters): I have three simple questions. First, are not taxpayers already paying for school lunches that are less healthy and that have less nutritional value?

Second, is it really more expensive to serve healthy meals than ones that are less so?

Third, during the 30 years that you worked in the Modesto City Schools lunch program, did you feel that it was wrong for taxpayers to pay for your salary and benefits?

There’s some healthy food for thought!
