Turlock chooses Martin and Carter for school board

November 5, 2013

In their first experience electing school board members by district, Turlock area voters chose an active parent and a community newcomer over an incumbent.

In Area 2 (middle and western part of district), Deborah Martin, a retired public utility director who moved to the community three years ago, led with 63 percent of the vote over incumbent Tami Harrill-Muniz, a lifelong Turlock resident.

In Area 6 (northwest part of the district), Jennifer R. Carter was leading with 67 percent of the vote over Joe Lewis. Carter is director of administrative services for the Merced Irrigation District and active in Pitman High Band Boosters, Turlock Youth Soccer Association and other community groups.

Board president Bob Weaver ran unopposed in Area 4. Trustee Josh Bernard did not seek a second term; he lives in Area 6.
