Speaker to discuss old boxcar homes in Riverbank

November 3, 2013

— Longtime resident Lucy Alcala will talk about the days when some families lived in converted boxcars at a Nov. 12 meeting of the Riverbank Historical Society.

Many early Mexican residents worked for the railroad that goes through town, and their first homes were in boxcars next to the tracks, organizers said.

The talk is part of the monthly Memories Day series. It will be at 11 a.m. at the Riverbank Historical Museum, 3237 Santa Fe St.
