— Election Day is nearly upon Merced.

The polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 8 p.m.

Three Merced City Council seats and the mayoral seat are hanging in the balance.

Two candidates are facing off to be mayor: incumbent Stan Thurston and Noah Lor.

The three City Council seats will be up for grabs among eight candidates. They are Michael Belluomini, Kevin Blake, Alex Gallardo Jr., Jana Mowrer, Peter Padilla, incumbent Josh Pedrozo, Chris Ramirez and Monica Kay Villa.

Voters will also decide whether to pass Measure J, which would align local elections with the gubernatorial and presidential counterparts. A “yes” vote would align elections.

In Los Banos, voters will decide on Measure K. To maintain the number of local police, firefighters and other first responders, Los Banos voters could extend Measure A for no more than seven years. A “yes” vote would extend the measure.

Check your sample ballots for your polling place. If you do not have a sample ballot, or have any other questions, go to www.mercedelections.org.
