CSU Stanislaus women holding their own at net

November 2, 2013

NORTHRIDGE — CSU Stanislaus tennis players McKenzy Harden and J'Ana Diamond took third place in their doubles bracket at the CSU Northridge Matador Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.

Harden and Diamond rebounded from an early loss to beat a mixed team made up of CSUS's Kaitlyn Ireland (usually their teammate) and Air Force's Tracy Landram, 8-6.

In a different doubles draw, Jessica Stokes and Jessica Laurie lost a pair of matches, first to a CSU Fullerton team and then to a UC Riverside duo, each by 8-2 scores.

In singles, Jessica Laurie beat Fullerton State's Melanie Abella 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 — impressive considering CSU Fullerton is a Division I school. Laurie will play for 13th place in B singles today.

Also in singles, Diamond beat Pepperdine's Miquela Newhart 6-3, 6-0, to advance to Sunday's fifth place game CSU Northridge's Leslie Chang.

Ireland, this time playing for CSUS in the Singles D bracket, lost to Los Angeles State's Sevana Zargarian 6-0, 6-3.

The tournament concludes today.
