Harold Peterson, 67, will be honored as Modesto American Legion Post 74’s citizen of the year Nov. 11 at the Legion Hall, 1001 S. Santa Cruz Ave., Modesto. The event marks the 65th year the Legion will present the award.
A decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and recipient of the Bronze Star, Peterson recently retired as the president and chief executive officer of Modesto-based Community Hospice. Peterson held that title from 1995 to 2003, during which time he directed the construction, startup and management of Samaritan Village, a senior community for more than 300 residents. He has served on various boards and councils and charities.
He was named Hughson’s Business Man of the Year in 2008, received the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award in 1995 and the United Way President’s Award in 1994.
The reception will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner and program following at 7. Curtis Grant, last year’s recipient of this distinction, will serve as master of ceremonies. All Legionnaires and community members are invited. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.
