As part of its investigation into the death of Korey Kauffman, the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department on Friday released a letter written by his father, Tony.
On Aug. 19, two hunters found Kauffmans body in Stanislaus National Forest. Kauffman was 26 wen he disappeared in April 2012, after the scrap-metal recycler told friends he was going to a nearby home to check out something that interested him.
My son Korey was a good kid, Tony Kauffman wrote. He had a kind and gentle soul, not an angel by any means, but a good person. Kauffman appealed to the public for help in finding out what happened to Korey and who is responsible. The knowledge of never seeing him again in this life is unbearable at times. I wont be helping with his car, going fishing, taking him to the drag boat races or having him at the house for family gatherings. Most importantly, watch him have a family of his own. For the last almost two years weve been one family member short, so many things we as parents take for granted because we believe that our children will outlive us. Im so grateful to all that were involved in finding him.
Investigators ask anyone with information to call Detective Cory Brown of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Homicide Unit at (209) 567-4485.
