MODESTO — The Modesto Police Department traffic unit arrested eight people who were screened at a DUI checkpoint on McHenry Avenue on Friday.
The checkpoint was held from 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. just north of downtown at McHenry and Frances avenues.
Nearly 600 people were screened. Five people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, one on suspicion of transporting and selling illegal drugs and two were arrested on other criminal charges. Eight others were cited for driving with suspended or revoked licenses.
Modesto police will conduct another DUI/drivers license checkpoint on Saturday and a DUI saturation patrol Friday.
