Abandoned home catches fire in south Modesto

October 27, 2013

— An abandoned south Modesto home, which has caught fire several times before, burned again Sunday morning, officials said.

Firefighters responding shortly after 7 a.m. found flames shooting through the roof of the structure in the 1500 block of Marin Avenue, said Battalion Chief Hugo Patino of the Modesto Regional Fire Authority. The Ceres Fire Department also responded.

The fire scorched property in the yard and caused minor damage to an exterior wall and eaves of an adjacent residence.

Damage was estimated at $25,000.

A search found no one inside, but squatters were seen during previous fires at the home, Patino said.

Sunday’s fire was under investigation.
