David Keas: Big business not trying Turlock first

October 24, 2013

The “Try Turlock First” slogan is a joke! My family moved to Turlock about 25 years ago when I was 18. My folks started a small business in contracting and manufacturing in the asphalt-maintenance field.

For the last 10 years, I have been operating the manufacturing and sales of the company and have noticed that most of the large businesses and most of the grocery chain stores bring in outside contractors and outside materials to do maintenance projects at their locations.

Now, can these other companies explain to me and the 20 family members of mine that live in Turlock why we should spend our hard-earned money in your stores when you don’t even support our own community?

I think maybe our slogan should be “try somewhere else first” because that’s what our local big businesses do.

I am considering boycotts of all of these companies that don’t even give our local contractors and suppliers a chance.
