Students collect food for needy

On Saturday, the Atwater High School Interact Club will visit homes in Atwater and leave a shopping bag for food donations to create Thanksgiving boxes for needy families in the area. The students will return on Halloween evening to pick up the bags. The boxes, with turkeys, will be distributed on Thanksgiving.

Harvest Festival set Sunday

The Livingston United Methodist Church at 11695 Olive Ave., Livingston, will hold its annual Harvest Festival on Sunday, starting at noon at the church’s Pioneer Hall. Lunch will be served, and there will be many free games for all ages, including a cakewalk to raise funds for UNICEF. Costumes are optional. Call (209) 394-2264.

Ducks Unlimited dinner set Nov. 2

Merced Ducks Unlimited will host its annual dinner at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 2, at the Elks Lodge, 1910 M St. A single dinner is $50; a couple’s meal is $75; Greenwing or youth, $40; corporate table (eight dinner tickets and $100 in general raffle tickets), $400; Gun table (includes eight dinner tickets, gun, rifle or shotgun, and $100 in general raffle tickets) $950. All tickets come with a meal, hat at the door and table wine.

School to honor veterans Nov. 6

The seventh annual “Courage Remembered,” a Veterans Day program, will be conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at Winfield Elementary School, 6981 Chesnut Lane, Winton. Call (209) 357-6891.

Salon to raise funds for cancer fight

Mademoiselle Salon & Spa will host a family day of activities honoring the fight against breast cancer at 10 a.m. Saturday at 2807 G St. Haircuts, facial waxing and hand massages will be offered at a discount, with all proceeds going to Relay for Life and the fight against breast cancer. Halloween makeup is available, too, for a donation. Proceeds will benefit Relay for Life Merced 2014. Call (209) 722-9000.

Merced center presents music

“Just Friends” will play music from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Merced Community Center ballroom, 755 W 15th St. Doors open at 1 p.m. Cost is $8 at the door. Call (209) 723-0839.

See ‘Dreams’ at art gallery

Uno Sergento Gallery will host the “Dreams” art exhibition, from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Uno Sergento Gallery of Fine Art, 5054 Pentecost Drive, suite E-5, Modesto. Featured will be whimsical and diverse works by award-winning artist Corey West. Call (209) 526-2464.

Rock with ‘Rent’ at Playhouse Merced

Playhouse Merced presents the rock musical “Rent” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, starting this weekend and continuing through Nov. 3. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, $12 for students and $10 for children. The play is rated M, for mature subject matter, situations and language. Call (209) 725-8587.
