— A 59-year-old woman from Oakdale died in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Highway 120 just west of Kennedy Road near Knights Ferry. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported at 5:47 p.m.

Jeffrey Swank, 50, of Oakdale was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion west on Highway 120 when he allowed the car to go across the double yellow lines and into the eastbound traffic lane.

The Oakdale woman, driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla east, did not have time to react and the front of the Ford “collided violently” with the front of the Toyota, the CHP said in a news release. The woman‘s name was not released. A deputy from the Stanislaus County Coroner’s office was trying to reach her next of kin, deputy Tom Killian said Wednesday afternoon.

After the crash, both cars came to rest in the eastbound traffic lanes. Swank was taken by helicopter to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries. Emergency responders declared the woman dead at the scene.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
