Jack McBride: Valley carpetbaggers come through

October 19, 2013

Jeff Denham from Monterey County (who now lives in Virginia) and Tom McClintock from Orange County came through for their party, but not their constituents. They both supported the foolish and costly shutdown of the federal government to the bitter end by voting against the Senate-crafted compromise. Come January, they will probably be voting for another shutdown just to satisfy their Heritage Foundation financial backers.

I have no sympathy for the Yosemite-dependent merchants or any other business people lamenting their lost income, because mostly all of them cast their votes for McClintock or Denham. As George Carlin once said, “Ignorant people elect ignorant leaders, it’s as simple as that.”
