Nick Bavaro: Monitoring will happen for Measure X funds

October 19, 2013

We can’t simply ignore the fact that crime is increasing in Modesto. Our city is suffering. Our neighborhoods are suffering – and they have suffered long enough. We need Yes on X for a safer, stronger Modesto!

As an employer and a former chairman of the Stanislaus County Republican Central Committee, I am never excited about taxes. But I know safety is our top priority. Fifty percent of Measure X funds will go to public safety to make our community safer. Other priorities include improving city streets and expanding programs to bring new businesses and jobs to Modesto.

We can debate about City Hall all we want, but the fact is that gangs, drugs and property crime are out of control in Modesto. We need to do something about it. We need to move Modesto forward, and Measure X does that with fiscal protections and safeguards. It includes an 11-member citizens oversight committee and independent annual audits to ensure funds are spend as promised. I am confident that funds will be spent as intended.
