Firefighters don’t just fight fires, they provide a range of emergency services. To keep skills sharp, some 230 firefighters from more than 15 agencies from across the state participated in a two-day training symposium over the weekend in Modesto. First responders practiced forcibly entering a building and searching a smoky room for survivors. They reviewed engine operations and residential ventilation. In addition to the firefighting exercises, the symposium included training in leadership. The Modesto Firefighters Training Symposium was started in 2010 to help firefighters hone their skills. Most of the training took place Friday and Saturday at the Regional Fire Training Center, 1220 Fire Science Lane.
