Our View: A pedestrian trail for west Modesto

October 18, 2013

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled Tuesday on the Helen White Memorial Trail, which will provide a safe route to school for hundreds of students and a place for residents to walk and bicycle. Fundraising for the $1 million project began in 2010 and is within $73,000 of the goal. The festivities are from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the nearby King-Kennedy Memorial Center, 601 S. Martin Luther King Drive. After the speeches, the Modesto High band will march to the project. This is a milestone for this important project. Even better will be when it’s completed, ideally by next spring.
