The Modesto Irrigation District’s brain drain has slowed with the promotion of two to assistant general managers.
Greg Salyer will oversee electric resources and Scott Van Vuren the utility’s finances.
Their ascension leaves MID with one vacancy among four assistant general managers. A week ago, only one of the four jobs was filled, Walter Ward having suddenly retired as assistant general manager over water operations.
Salyer, a 23-year employee, had been acting assistant general manager over electric resources since January. He will oversee power plants, electricity contracts and interaction with California’s power grid.
Van Vuren has worked for MID since 1998. He will be in charge of customer service, payroll, budgets and retirement funds.
Of 411 employees, 40 percent will be eligible to retire next year. Also, the five-member board of directors will welcome three new members after the Nov.5 election.
