Regarding Some city notables say I Streets best for court (Oct. 6, Page A1): I dont understand this 11th-hour plea. Negotiations to purchase is not a public forum event. The Brown Act specifically exempts those negotiations from public scrutiny while actually going on.
I am not going to speculate on the motive to revisit the findings of the committee or the Modesto City Council; we are past that point. The only question is: Do you want a new court now or not? California court officials have a system that requires things to be done by specific times. If we miss that date to hand over the property to the court officials, they can simply say some flowery words, but put our request back into the general mix of request proposals for new courts.
Remember, there are a lot more requests to build or refurbish courts in this state than there is money to do them.
Last point: Looking at the map with the article, one might ask, is two blocks that important? The Bee building is two blocks east of our current court building and the one selected is two blocks west of our current court building.
