A fire in the airport neighborhood destroyed an outbuilding and burned through power lines early Friday morning. At 5:47 a.m., Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District units, with assistance from the Modesto Regional Fire Authority, responded to the fire behind a home in the 400 block of Empire Avenue. Firefighters found an outbuilding fully engulfed in flames and downed power lines arcing on the ground, said Capt. Buck Condit. Crews were kept idle until power lines could be disconnected, Condit said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 10 minutes and prevented it from spreading to the main residence. Three engines and two trucks, with two battalion chiefs and 16 firefighters, responded to the incident. The fire destroyed the building and its contents, estimated to cost about $4,000. The cause is under investigation.
