October 11, 2013

Teams from 12 California schools will gather Saturday for the Mike Camana Invitational, Modesto Junior College's annual wrestling tournament.

The event, named for the late father of former MJC wrestler Aman Camana, also features Skyline, Chabot, Menlo, Shasta, Lassen, Mt. San Antonio, Rio Hondo, Victor Valley, West Hills, Santa Rosa and Delta along with the host Pirates.

Action begins at 9 a.m. at MJC Gym with the finals scheduled to start at about 5 p.m.

Skyline will make a return trip to Modesto after it was beaten by MJC 27-19 in Coast Conference action Wednesday night. Winning by fall for Modesto was Jesse McDaniel (184) while teammate Carson Homuth (149) worked for a 7-3 victory. Luis Quintero (157) and Latrell Benjamin (165) each earned 1-point decisions.

Modesto, which dropped a match via a forfeit to Sierra last week in a scheduling mixup, survived 25-21, 16-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11. Miller had 26 kills.

Men's Water Polo

• EASY WIN — Tyler Bolton and Matt Watling totaled three goals apiece for the Pirates (9-3, 2-1) who swam to a convincing 17-5 Big 8 win at Santa Rosa. Brad McCain accounted for two goals for Modesto while goalkeepers Geoff Risting and Jeremy Day combined for 17 saves.
