Paul Troop: Politicians’ intentions

October 7, 2013

I received an email from Jeff Denham with the intent of keeping his constituents informed. He tells us he has voted every time to keep the government open and that “it’s unconscionable that Congress cannot meet one of its most basic responsibilities to approve government appropriations and ensure the continued funding of essential federal services.”

What he does not tell us that every one of his votes also had a provision to repeal Obamacare. Denham says, “I have repeatedly voted to keep our government running through December 15, 2013, and to enact responsible solutions to protect members of the military, seniors, veterans and local law enforcement officials. I also voted to make sure that our brave troops receive their pay, no matter what.”

This letter is disingenuous and misleading, and his constituents deserve better. He needs to stand up and tell us why he wants the U.S. government to shut down in order to repeal affordable health care.
