D.F. Raube: Stop farmland conversion

October 6, 2013

County Supervisor Jim DeMartini, in the editorial “Have we gotten in too deep?” (Sept. 22, Issues & Ideas), is very correct when he made the statement that converting the nonirrigated foothill rangeland to irrigated crops should be prohibited.

From what we learned in an earlier Bee article, the deep agricultural wells are drawing ancient water 2,000 years old and older and that water will never be replaced in the foreseeable future.
