Pete Kampa, general manager of the Tuolumne Utilities District, will serve as president of the California Special Districts Association in 2014-15. Kampa previously served on the organization’s executive committee as secretary and has been on the board since 1998. He also has been an association director since 1998 and served as its executive committee’s secretary.
A joint promotion involving the Stanislaus Senior Softball Association, the Wounded Warriors softball program and the Modesto Nuts that took place at John Thurman Field in July is among the 10 nominees for promotion of the year in Minor League Baseball’s annual Milby award. Modesto City Schools has announced its heroes for August. Winners included Steve Beauschesne, a warehouse and library services employee at Tuolumne Elementary School; Steve Hurst, Bret Harte Elementary principal; and Mark Nower, Gregori High School agriculture instructor.
The district also honored E.&J. Gallo Winery employees as winners of the first-ever hero award for volunteers. Employees have been mentoring Wilson Elementary School students for 15 years.
The Mountain-Valley Emergency Medical Services Agency recently named its EMS Heroes award winners during a presentation to the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.
Recipients, chosen by their peers, were emergency medical technicians Henry Benavides and Michael Mutoza and paramedics Peter Hastings and Michael Silver for their Superstorm Sandy response; Benavides and paramedic Kristy Kuhn for winning the National Clinical and Safety Championships in Colorado; Kuhn for exemplary patient care and customer service; Maureen McKinley for emergency medical dispatch; fire Capt. Mike Satariano, engineer Jeremy Smith, firefighter Doug Falle, sheriff’s deputy Jesus Sigala, paramedic Jered Eckle and EMT Robert Shelp for exemplary patient care/customer service/teamwork; paramedic/administrator Eric Watter for dedication to the EMS community; and Eddie Martinez, Shannon Sandobal, Jesse Nicasio, Josh Hauselman, Jeff Edney, Jim Beauchiemn, Craig Walker, Ron Sohn, Zack Brubaker, Greg Miller, Gary Skiles, Tom Dick, Jiar Juarez and Modesto Regional Fire Authority Battalion Chief Hugo Patino for compression-only CPR.
