Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Harvick survived a season-high 15 cautions and held off Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon in the closing laps to win Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway -- the fourth race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
Harvick started on the pole and led the most laps with 138. He won Friday's qualifying for his first pole in seven years. It was Harvick's third race victory this season and the 22nd of his Sprint Cup Series career. This is his last year with Richard Childress Racing before he moves over to Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2014 season.
Kurt Busch finished second, while Jeff Gordon took the third spot. Both drivers are in the Chase. Joey Logano and Carl Edwards, also a title contender, rounded out the top-five.
Jimmie Johnson's sixth-place run coupled with an 11th-place finish for Matt Kenseth allowed Johnson to trim Kenseth's lead in the Chase standings from eight points to just three. Harvick moved up to third in the rankings, as he trails Kenseth by 25 points.
Kyle Busch dropped from third to fifth in points (-35) after he crashed late in the race. Busch ended up finishing 34th, as he continued to struggle at this 1.5-mile racetrack. He had to start the race from the rear of the field in a backup car after wrecking his primary car in Saturday's practice.
The next Chase race is Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Harvick won in May.
