Mary Menz, center, takes the lead as the crowd join in a dance during the International Heritage Festival last year in Modesto.

Today is the 22nd annual International Heritage Festival, an event that is delightfully nonpolitical – in contrast to district elections and what’s been going on in Washington, D.C., this week. The festival has been in several locations over the years. The 2013 version will be at the Modesto Junior College East Campus on College Avenue. As with previous festivals, it will feature music, dance, children’s crafts, heritage displays and, of course, lots of food.

Representatives from two sister cities will be among the guests. The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. and runs through 5 p.m. More information is at www.InternationalFestivalModesto.org.

Modesto Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
