Planning Commission meets on Wednesday

Fighting breast cancer
The Merced City Firefighters Local 1479 has teamed up with the Merced Mercy Cancer Center and Dignity Health to raise awareness and money for the Merced Cancer Center. People who donate $20 will receive a pink T-shirt. Firefighters will wear pink T-shirts while on duty through Oct. 31. They will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. today at 3520 N. Guild Harvest of Quilts
Gateway Quilters will host its Guild Harvest of Quilts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Merced County Fairgrounds. Admission is $7 for adults and children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. The group will be serving homemade soup, salad and pie. There also will be vendors, a childrens Treasure Hunt, door prizes and featured artist Karen Mous.
