TURLOCK — A Turlock 11-year-old who set her sights higher after striving to raise $1,000 last year for diabetes research has reached her goal.
McKenzie Bronken, diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 6, held a drive-through dinner to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She raised $11,570, according to dad Bob Bronken.
Last year, McKenzie held a lemonade stand in hopes of raising $1,000. She raised $6,518.
Because of her efforts, McKenzie was chosen to cut the ribbon at the JDRF walk to cure diabetes in Sacramento on Sunday.
