A story Saturday on Page A1 reported that Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, said he had not been informed about a timber salvage bill sponsored by Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Granite Bay, prior to its introduction. McClintock’s staff, though, had been in touch with Costa’s staff. The story also said the offices of California’s two senators were not aware of McClintock’s bill. The story should have attributed that assertion to the press secretaries of the two senators, neither of whom was familiar with the legislation in question. McClintock’s staff had, however, contacted the legislative staffs of the senators.
