Modesto meeting on school funding Thursday

October 2, 2013

Students First, a national organization lobbying for education reform, will hold a parent empowerment meeting today in Modesto regarding the Local Control Funding Formula and providing an opportunity to write letters to state and local leaders.

Extra money has been set aside to help English learners and low-income students, the group said in a news release, and state politicians are asking for community input before disbursing the funds.

“It is important Sacramento recognizes the unique needs of newly arrived English learners compared to those who have lived in the United States for years,” the release said. “They need to hear from the affected communities directly.”

Today’s meeting is at 6 p.m. at Davis Park Church of Christ, 901 W. Rumble Road. To learn more, visit www.studentsfirst.org.
