Spencer Tacke: Too-loud Symbiosis can stay away

September 30, 2013

As a resident of the Oakdale area, I hope the Symbiosis Gathering does not return. The excessive noise level was almost continuous from Thursday night until Monday morning. And this was sanctioned by all fivemembers of our Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors, who approved a special permit allowing for audio amplification outputs that well exceeded the OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) sound decibel and duration levels requiring hearing protection, continuously from 2 p.m. Sept. 20 until 2 a.m. Sept. 23!

I find it ironic that the sponsors of this event stated, in the background information they submitted to the Board of Supervisors, that “Symbiosis Events, LLC is an event production company dedicated to creating transformative and inspiring experiences that are based on a deep respect for our community and environment.” What a contradiction! A deep respect for whose community and environment ? It certainly was not for ours in Oakdale.
