Barbara Stanley: Black cat adoptions

September 27, 2013

Regarding “Adopt a black cat, get a deal” (Sept. 21, Page B-2): I’m pleased with the reduced fee idea but not in October. Most shelters will not adopt out any black cats close to Halloween. Believe me, there are still groups that use black cats in rituals and sacrifices. For some, Oct. 31 and Halloween are their holy days and they slaughter cats, black cats. Adoption can be the best for all animals and I applaud that. It won’t hurt the shelter to put a hold on black cats until after this particular day.
