Class of ’53 Remembers

September 21, 2013

— Kennedy was establishing the Peace Corps, the Soviets were building a wall dividing East and West Berlin, the first lasers became a reality and Modesto High School was graduating its last class as a one high school town. The year was 1953, and much has changed since then.

Modesto now boasts seven high schools and an alternative high school. But in the garden at the home of Bob and Marie Gallo, the talk was all about the good old days as the Gallos hosted the 60th class reunion Saturday for Modesto High’s Class of 1953.

Classmates reminisced, then enjoyed a special surprise at 12:30 p.m.: The Modesto High School band and cheerleaders played the school fight song and other tunes. The gathering was a success, especially in light of the rain holding off until after the party ended at 3.
