The Stanislaus County Veteran Stand Down for homeless and at-risk veterans began Thursday and continues through Saturday at the American Legion Hall, 1001 S. Santa Cruz Ave., Modesto.
The event provides health, dental, vision and hearing screenings, legal assistance and child support assistance.
Other services and providers at the event include Social Security, food stamps, the DMV for state identification, Medicare and Medi-Cal, Red Cross, The Salvation Army, food banks and veterinary care.
There are hot showers and hot meals available, and entertainment will be provided at night. The event encompasses Stanislaus, Merced, San Joaquin, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties.
There will be no charge to any veteran, and animals are accepted and will be fed as well. Veterans must bring their DD214 or acceptable proof of military service (VA medical card, retirement card or any form of ID showing their military service).
