MODESTO — A judge on Monday postponed a trial until Dec. 16 for Modesto City Schools board member Steven Grenbeaux, who is charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a confrontation with a Caltrans worker in downtown Modesto last year.
Initially, Grenbeaux was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, but the judge reduced the charge at the conclusion of the defendants preliminary hearing in June.
The trial is estimated to last two days. The incident occurred about 3:20 p.m. April 18, 2012, on L Street between Eighth and Ninth streets.
Testimony in the preliminary hearing indicated Grenbeaux drove his vehicle into a barricaded construction area.
California Department of Transportation supervisor Dan Robles testified that Grenbeauxs car bumped his legs.
The school board member denies hitting Robles with his car but has admitted he made a mistake in driving around the barrier.
