A man was hospitalized with burns Saturday night after a fire damaged a west Modesto apartment.
The man suffered smoke inhalation, along with first- and second-degree burns on his face and upper body, said Battalion Chief Sean Slamon of the Modesto Regional Fire Authority. There was no further information available Sunday on the mans condition.
The fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. at the apartment in the 300 block of North Emerald Avenue, between Maze Boulevard and Laurel Avenue. Slamon said the first firefighters arrived at the burning home. The firefighters had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes. ]
The fire displaced the residents, causing an estimated $75,000 in damage to the apartment and its contents.
Red Cross officials assisted the residents with food and finding temporary housing. Investigators had not determined the cause of the fire.
