Stanislaus County board: The Stanislaus County Board of Education will meet at 8:30 a.m. today in the office of education boardroom, 1100 H St. The board will hear a report on the new Come Back Kids Charter School, Common Core training being conducted by the office and the impact of education funding in the community. Trustees will also hear about the Outdoor Education Program facility and how it fared in the Rim fire.

Sylvan Union: The Sylvan Union School District board will meet at 7 p.m. today in the district boardroom, 605 Sylvan Ave. Trustees will hear an update on district finances and governance goals. The board will vote on construction expenses, budget revisions and a resolution for Red Ribbon Week.

Hughson Unified: The Hughson Unified School District board will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at 6815 Hughson Ave. Trustees will hear reports on testing and school scores.

Summerville Union: The Summerville Union High School District board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the high school library, 17555 Tuolumne Road, Tuolumne. The board will get updates on district finances and bond spending and vote on a job description for technology coordinator. Trustees will also hear a report on the proposed unification with Sonora Union High School District.

Retired teachers to meet: The California Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at Charity Hall, 645 Charity Way. A virtual tour of Great Valley Museum’s new home at Modesto Junior College will be on the program. There will be a question-and-answer period at 11 a.m., the virtual tour at 11:30 and lunch at noon. Waterford Unified: The Waterford Unified School District board will meet for a study session at 5 p.m. and have its regular meeting at 7 Thursday in the district boardroom, 319 N. Reinway Ave. The board will hold a study session on by-area trustee voting plans. The four plans can be seen online. Cick on the agenda link at http://bit.ly/WaterfordBoard. Trustees will hear enrollment and class load updates, reports on summer school, the high school pole barn and irrigation wells. The board will vote on a teachers contract and a one-time payment from reserves of 3percent of annual salary to most employees and the board.

App contest: Verizon Innovative is holding an App Challenge offering grants for the schools of winning teams, tablets and help from the MIT Media Lab’s App Inventor Training Corps to develop their concepts. Registration is open now and submissions are being accepted through Dec. 3.
