Regarding U.S. should not stay home (Sept. 5, Letters): The writer needs to learn something about history. The fact is that the United States did stay out of Adolf Hitlers way. He became chancellor in 1933, and by 1935 laws were passed to start locking up Jews. The United States didnt enter the war until December 1941, and it had little to do with the concentration camp horrors.
By the time the U.S entered the war, Hitler had already killed most of the 6 million people who died during his reign of power. Maybe the United States should have jumped into World War II earlier than we did. That may have helped, maybe not. The comparisons to current Syria is appropriate.
