RIPON DISTRICT TO MEET: The Ripon Unified School District board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Ripon City Council chambers, 259 Wilma Ave. The board will hear an update on the Ripon Continuation High School and get a report from the school psychologist. It will discuss approving a credit card for the Ripon High School Associated Student Body. See the agenda at http://bit.ly/Xxy1Vz.

OAKDALE SCHOOLS TO MEET: The Oakdale Unified School District board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Oakdale City Council chambers, 277 N. Second Ave. The board will hear reports on Common Core State Standards and outdoor education. There will be discussion of a change to the district contract with its teachers. INTERIM LEADER HIRED: The Ripon Unified School District hired Interim Superintendent Bill Draa to fill the vacancy left by Louise Johnson, who left to lead the Nevada Joint Union High School District in Grass Valley. The district also placed three new principals: Dante Alvarez at Ripona School, Marlon Gayle at Colony Oak and Sergei Samborski at the new Ripon Continuation High School.

BRET HARTE WINNERS: The Bret Harte School chess team took fourth place overall in tournament play Aug. 31 in Burlingame. Mohammed Abdullah tied for first with a perfect score of 5 out of 5. Ethan Barrita-Castellanos was fourth with a score of 4 out of 5. Ibraham Abdullah was eighth with a score of 3.5 out of 5. Liliana Flores was ninth with a score of 3 out of 5. Team coach Kevin Cripe said the students won 78 percent of their games. More than a dozen upper-grade students joined the club this year, as well as about 30 second-graders. The team practices at lunch periods Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Thursdays after school.

SIFA MEETING CANCELED: The Wednesday meeting of the Schools Infrastructure Financing Agency board is cancelled because no business is required in September. It is expected the board will meet at its regularly scheduled Oct. 9 meeting.
