Beatles tribute comes to Modesto for Picnic at the Pops

local@modbee.comSeptember 7, 2013

— "Come together, right now" was the cry as Picnic at the Pops took a nostalgic trip backward with its 83rd season-opening concert Saturday on the E.&J. Gallo Winery grounds.

The program featured the Modesto Symphony Orchestra — yeah, yeah, yeah — performing with Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles, and the crowd enjoyed an evening of Beatlemania, wine and good food.

The Beatles played together for less than 10 years, but their influence on music endures.

Next up for the MSO is Latin Fire on Oct. 4-5 at the Gallo Center for the Arts. In that performance, the Axiom Brass Quintet joins conductor David Lockington and the MSO for the music of Copland, Egea, Velasco and Chavez.
