CALAVERAS COUNTY — A Calaveras County man was arrested and a second suspect is wanted in connection with a home invasion involving firearms.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the 2300 block of Wagner Road on Sunday in Railroad Flat where three victims said two men walked into their home, pointed a shotgun, rifle and handgun at them and accused them of being "rats," Sgt. Chris Hewitt said in a news release.
One of the victims said she struggled with one of the men when he pointed a handgun at her father and she feared he would fire it.
There were several children sleeping in the home during the incident.
Deputies later that day found one of the suspects, Richard Gastelum Jr., 34, at his home in Railroad Flat. The victims positively identified him as the suspect who had the handgun.
Deputies attempted to interview Gastelum, but he declined to give a statement, Hewitt said.
The firearms used in the crime have not been located.
Gastelum was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a crime, committing a felony while out on bail, burglary and conspiracy, all felonies.
