— Two women were arrested for robbery in Modesto in connection with two separate cell phone thefts Wednesday evening.

One incident occurred in the 1000 block of Fourth Street about 6:30 p.m. when a woman at an acquaintance's house started showing too much interest in her new cell phone, according to Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.

The suspect asked to see the victim's new cell phone, but the victim wouldn't give it to her, Graves said. A fight ensued, during which the victim was scratched on the arm. She went inside and locked the door behind her, but the suspect crawled in through a window and took the victim's new cell phone, as well as her makeup and cigarettes, Graves said.

Angela Garcia, 28, was arrested at her home later in the evening on suspicion of robbery. The victim's cell phone was found at her home, Graves said.

About an hour before that robbery, a man and a woman stole a cell phone from a woman getting off a city bus while she was distracted with her child's stroller, Graves said

The victim went home and got relatives to find the suspects, at least one of whom she knew. They found the suspects in the 1700 block of Standiford Avenue.

The man ran, but the woman fought; she was detained by the victim and her relatives until police arrived, Graves said.

Sarah Heffner, 24, was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
