Don’t shoot the wrong doves

September 5, 2013

Regarding the Sunday column “Invasion of big doves causing big problems in state”: We have quite a number of ringed turtle-doves in the Snelling area that are smaller but look almost exactly like the Eurasian collared-dove the writer talks about. They are lovely birds and we enjoy feeding and watching them at our home and around town.

We are not hunters, so we cringe when we hear the gun blasts during dove season. I would hate to think that because of this article, people will think they can indiscriminately shoot as many of these beautiful doves as they wish, thinking they are killing the invasive species.
