Info: Driver's education is the first step teens must take before receiving a driver's permit. This course is a fun interactive way to complete the requirement. Parental involvement is essential. Choose an internet course for $75 or a home study course for $90. DMV-accepted completion certificate issued upon successful completion of the course. NOTE: Does not include behind-the-wheel driving. When: Entries close Sept. 20

Info: The Merced County Fair is accepting graphic design entries and photo illustrations to go with the 2014 slogan, "Saluting Our Farmers and Ranchers." The creator of the winning logo design or photo illustration will be awarded a $500 prize and a pair of season passes to the fair. The winning artwork will be used on the fair's website, Facebook, ads, posters, postcards, schedules, T-shirts and more. The competition is open to Merced County residents only. To enter the contest, graphic artists may use any medium and submit a maximum of three entries on 8½-by-11-inch paper. For photo illustrations, submit a maximum of three 8½ by-11-inch prints. For photo illustrations, photos must be high resolution (300 dpi or better). If a photo illustration is selected as the contest winner, high resolution digital files must be provided to the fair. Northern San Joaquin Valley

Info: The San Joaquin Valley Air District is seeking creative student artists to submit their work for the 2014 Healthy Air Living Kids' Calendar contest. The annual, four-color, bilingual, wall calendar is produced with the help of valley students from kindergarten through high school. Paper should be placed sideways, in landscape orientation, so it is 8½ inches high and 11 inches wide. Artwork should be in color. Medium can be paint, pen, crayon, marker, pencil or even computer-generated art. Vivid colors that reproduce well are recommended. Artwork should contain a message about how to live a Healthy Air life. Examples of past messages are "Less cars, more feet," "Hacer del mundo un lugar major," "Don't pollute! Keep the air clean." Artists must include their name and address, phone and-or email contact, age, grade and school on the back of the entry. Mail art flat, not folded, to 2014 Kids Calendar, Valley Air District, 1990 E.
