Ripon police officers are using two electric scooters donated by local residents.

The Harris family donated two electric scooters, with accessories, valued at a total of about $3,000 to the department in July, police said.

Ripon High School resource officer Trevor McGinnis is using one of the scooters to patrol on campus. Police volunteers will use the other one.

The scooters will be assigned to officers and volunteers for special-event patrols including the Almond Blossom Festival, the Fourth of July celebration, Main Street Day,

Taste of Ripon and other community events, police said in a news release.
