Elderly mother, son die in Calaveras County fire

— An elderly woman and her son died in a house fire in Mountain Ranch, authorities said.

According to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department, deputies and firefighters responded to a home in the 8000 block of Mountain Meadows Drive at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses said two adults might be trapped inside. Sheriff's detectives and arson investigators responded to the scene and found two deceased adults inside the home.

They were identified as Barbara Grizzel and her son Harry Hanssen, according to the Calaveras County coroner's office.

The office did not have the victims' ages, but the Stockton Record reports they were 86 and 66, respectively.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
