Modesto police to hold academy for the public

— The Modesto Police Department will hold a free Community Police Academy course for three hours each Wednesday, starting Sept. 18 and ending Nov. 6.

The course helps residents learn about the role of police, arrests, laws, gangs, drugs, evidence, public relations, volunteers and traffic enforcement.

Applications will be accepted until the course is full or by Thursday. The applications are available at the Police Department, 600 10th St.
