City leaders need to open their ears

I read with great interest that city of Modesto management is wondering why the downtown area is financially floundering. The answer is very simple. As has been reported, but heard with deaf ears by the community leadership, the business community is quietly responding to the city’s actions and management. The business community and the general population are simply tired of the dangers of downtown, overregulation, indefensible high rents and the goofy stuff that the city leaders are so famous for.

Business folks are weary of working in what has become a Northern California hotspot for the homeless, drug users, panhandlers and folks with little to do and lots of time to do it in. It is time to clip the wings of the compassionate industries in this community and stop the massive inflow of vagrants, drug users and homeless. Presently the these people are a majority of the full-time residents of the downtown area.

The leaders of this community need to listen to the drums they do not beat. Respected national publications have rated Modesto as one of the worst-run cities in the country. Our city fathers should spend less time defending their position and ask – why?
