Remembering Condit’s concern for vets

The first thing that comes to my mind when I reach the Livermore Veterans Administration Hospital is Gary Condit. When the government was closing the hospital, veterans groups and other advocate support committees didn’t look very good for a while. However, the word was going around, “write to your congressman.” I wrote to Gary and was very surprised to get an answer within a week. He wrote, “I am not in any veterans or armed forces committee, but I’ll do what I can.”

At the time, I was doing volunteer work and was hurting like the hospital staff members. I got eight letters from Gary; he was very concerned. He did all he could and more because he had a lot of influence as a member of the House of Representatives.

I was a die-hard Republican, but I supported Gary Condit. He was very concerned about his congressional district.

I also want people to know that not all Mexicans are Democrats and not all of them are in the auto theft business.
