— A Turlock woman died and her husband was critically injured in a triple-fatal accident in South Dakota last week.

According to the Black Hills Pioneer website, the accident occurred Friday afternoon on Highway 85 south of the city of Lead.

Jennifer Ann Werts, 28, of Torrington, Wyo., was driving north in a 1957 Chevrolet when the car went off the right side of the road, then went back across the highway and hit a 2003 Acura driven south by Tracy A. Sunde, 68, of Turlock.

Sunde’s wife, Patricia, 66, died at the scene, the newspaper said, as did Werts and her passenger, Andrew Eugene Tollman, 38, of Lusk, Wyo. Sunde suffered serious injuries and is being treated at a Rapid City hospital. The occupants of the Chevrolet were not wearing seat belts; the Sundes were, the newspaper said.

The Sundes were active in the Turlock Democratic Club; Tracy Sunde is the group’s treasurer and Patti Sunde served as its secretary.
