Modesto Nuts fall to Lake Elsinore Storm

August 26, 2013

The Modesto Nuts closed an otherwise successful 5-2 road trip with a 5-3 loss Monday night at Lake Elsinore.

Starter Chris Jensen (4-6) allowed four runs in the fourth and was outpitched by the Storm's James Needy (9-5), who retired 15 straight batters at one point.

Modesto took an early lead when Trevor Story singled home Matt Wessinger, but Lake Elsinore took charge with its big inning. The Nuts crept closer with Wessinger's 2-out, 2-run double in the seventh.

The Storm bullpen responded by blanking Modesto the rest of the way.

That was the final road game of the regular season for the Nuts, who will try to protect a 2-game lead over San Jose with seven games left in the California League North Division's second-half race.

Modesto's important homestand begins against Inland Empire tonight at John Thurman Field.
